How to Make Efficient Use of Your Time While Looking for Real Estate
by Katie Rice, Buyer Specialist
When you’re looking for a good real estate agent, contractor, or other service provider, there’s almost endless information available on how to do just that. Yet how often do you read something about how to be a “good” client? What I really mean here is how you can answer the question, “what are the things I can do to make the most efficient use of my time while looking for real estate?”
Here are my top tips on how to get the most out of your time while searching for residential, commercial, or land properties in Western North Carolina.
-
To gain clarity on what you want, make 3 lists: non-negotiables, priority, and open for discussion.
-
If you’re in a partnership, make sure you and your partner are in agreement about 99% of your needs/wants.
-
Become a master of communication with your agent. Tell them how you communicate best and ask them how they like to communicate best. Work to compromise and come up with a plan.
-
Do not be afraid to ask a lot of questions, including clarification on terms and laws you are unfamiliar with.
-
If you feel stuck and need guidance, ask your agent for a specific to-do list.
-
Be open-minded and listen to your realtor; they often “see” between the lines.
-
Stay organized, respond promptly, and follow through with tasks in a timely manner.
-
Always be honest, and do so in a kind manner. Communicate your gratitude and appreciation. Cultivating an environment of mutual respect will tend to your time and energy.
A good agent’s aims should always be to both respect your time and meet your needs. My understanding of efficiency and creative ways to streamline the real estate process is helpful in accomplishing those goals. If efficiency in your real estate search is important to you, please give me a call.
This is my expertise and I’d be happy to get on a call with you to discuss my ideas on these topics further.
