Since the Pactiv Evergreen mill blew its final whistle on May 24, 2023, curiosity arose throughout the surrounding communities with regards to what would become of this historic site. The mill was established in 1908 and was an essential piece of the town’s employment and economic development. With so many questions lingering, the news of the property being sold so quickly even despite setbacks due to Hurricane Helene has the community astir with anticipation of a new beginning.
The new owner of the property, Eric Spirtas, president and director of communications for Two Banks Development and Spirtas Worldwide, has plans that support sustainable growth. According to the Smoky Mountain News, Spirtas shares, “Our vision is to breathe new life into this dormant site, transforming it into a hub of industrial, commercial and residential activity that will benefit the town of Canton and strengthen commerce in the area.”
