We’re excited to share an update on the future of “The View of Asheville,” the breathtaking property we represented in a $7.4 million sale in 2023.
The next chapter for Deaverview Mountain is officially underway. At its September 15, 2026 meeting, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners approved a $1.39 million contract with Asheville-based Equinox Environmental to develop the master plan and engineering designs for the newly acquired 342+ acres atop Deaverview Mountain.
According to an article in WLOS, the two-phase master-planning process will include community outreach, environmental and trail assessments, recommendations for future funding, and planning for access, parking, trails, restrooms, and viewsheds. A future third phase will focus on construction of trails, access improvements, and viewshed amenities.
The announcement follows Buncombe County’s acquisition of the property this past spring, made possible through 100% grant funding. Funding included nearly $4.5 million from the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP) awarded to Buncombe County, along with a $4.37 million North Carolina Land and Water Fund (NCLWF) grant awarded to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy (SAHC).
This property, also known as Spivey or Deaverview Mountain, is one of the most visible and significant landscapes near downtown Asheville. The sweeping views, mature hardwood forests, springs, meadows, and established trail network make it an extraordinary setting for future outdoor recreation and environmental education. The master-planning process will help shape how the property can thoughtfully welcome the public while protecting its natural resources and scenic character.
